Eclectic and artsy coastal city that is home to Chile’s National Congress. My favorite city in Chile.
From wikitravel:
Local buses also ply between Viña del Mar and Valparaiso, taking about 15 minutes each way. Fares range from Ch$350 to Ch$380.
Going to Valparaiso and not going on the ascensores (inclines) is like going to Venice and not taking a ride on a Gondola, only that the ascensores cost as little as 100 Chilean Pesos (around 20 US cents).
From the bus terminal of Valparaiso you can reach us with a taxi, which depending on day or night prices should not cost you more than $4000 (9 USD) or $5000 (11 USD), or with one of the several buses, which drops you out at the Urriola Street, from where you can take the Concepcion elevator or walk up the hill to the Templeman Street.
From the Anibal Pinto Square at Esmeralda Street you can also take a colectivo taxi which drives up the hill on Almirante Montt street, where you should leave at Urriola.
By bus: Take any bus from Avenida Pedro Montt, which is front of the station, and get off at street Bellavista. Look for the Anibal Pinto square and cross it. Continue to street Cumming and take the Reina Victoria elevator (cost $100 chilean pesos). Walk to your right to street Dimalow and continue for one and a half blocks until you reach Urriola. Look for number 636. Or Almirante Montt 327
By taxi: You can take a taxi outside the central station. It should take a maximum of 15 minutes to arrive and cost $4500 - $5000 chilean pesos.
By foot: Follow Avenida Pedro Montt until you come to the crossing of street Bellavista. Look for the plaza Anibal Pinto and cross it. Continue to street Cumming and take the Reina Victoria elevator(cost $100 chilean pesos). Walk to your right to street Dimalow and continue for one and a half blocks until you reach Urriola and look the number 636. O Almirante Montt 327 This will take you maximum 30 minutes.
By taxi (cl$3.500 to cl$4.500): from the bus terminal, request to go to street Papudo with Templeman, Cerro Concepcion. Then lower the Boulebar Papudo, finding the Pasaje Galvez.
By bus (cl$300 to cl$450 per person): get off at Blanco street where the Turri Clocktower is, take the elevator (Concepcion), walk through Paseo Gervasoni until Papudo Street, then go down by Boulebar Papudo to Pasaje Galvez
Ideally send an email or phone to report arrival time, to wait at the bus terminal.
From the bus station: leave the bus station and walk down the Pedro Montt Street where you can take any bus that goes to (Aduana) then stop at Plaza Sotomayor. After that walk toward the stairway which is between the El Peral elevetor (ascensor El Peral) and Justice Palace (Palacio de Justicia), walking on the stairs (Subida El Peral) you will see a yellow house with red front door, that’s the hostel.
Transportation Taxi bus: you can take any bus that says Aduana then get off in Plaza Sotomayor (in front to the port). about $280 CLP
Taxi: wherever you go leavin the bus station there is taxis, about $3500 CLP
Subway/metro: 4 blocks going to the sea, there is the metro station, you must to get off on the last station, estacion puerto. about $350 CLP
To give it to the taxi driver: Voy a la Plaza Justicia (escala el peral), donde est Tribunales de Justicia.
